About Our Breeding Program
When I look at my ideal dog, I don't want any one feature to stand out. The dog should be one balanced and harmonious picture, every part blending smoothly into the next.
Physically, I want my dogs to look like they just stepped out of a 19th century pastoral painting. I like a balanced, moderate dog with an athletic outline. Solid, but not heavy bone, balanced front and rear, long tail, and proper depth of chest. Big, efficient sidegait with maximum reach and drive, but minimal lift of feet. A pretty head with a soft, intelligent expression.
Temperamentally, my ideal dog is intelligent, stable, driven, and resilient, with good handler focus and a solid "off switch." Sound/motion sensitivity, sharpness, dog or human aggression, and lack of work ethic are undesirable. Our goal is for our dogs to be fun, engaged companions, willing and ready to work at whatever task is in front of them.
Health-wise, all of my breeding dogs will be OFA certified clear of hip and elbow dysplasia, CERF evaluated clear of eye diseases, and DNA tested to be unaffected from CEA, CL, and TNS. If a dog used in my program is tested as a carrier, he/she will only be bred to clear dogs. This ensures that any resulting puppies will be unaffected by those diseases. Epilepsy is another health issue that we monitor for closely, although there is currently no test available. We ask that any puppies sold on breeding contracts follow the same guidelines for future mates.
